SHE’S DONE
AND she managed to make a photoshoot.
I’m going to do a dress tour as soon as my professors are done their marking. I’m not kidding with how last minute things have been. It’s really my fault for traveling too much… I’m currently posting this on my way to Berlin?

I’m soso excited to present: “Off the Plinth”
This look concludes my third-year drape collection, which explores the tension between natural identity and the man-made ideals imposed on women. Inspired by the harsh stillness of stone statues—freezing women in their so-called “ideal form”—I sought to bring life and fluidity back, crumbling away the plinth they stand upon.
The duality of the stone corset, which restricts the wearer, is broken and set free through the flowing drape of the skirt. The skirt, which can also be worn as a veil, evokes the illusion of the perfect virgin bride. By removing the veil, the wearer reveals a bed of vibrant flowers around the abdomen—reclaiming and embracing her identity and purpose as more than someone’s “pretty bride.”
She is stepping off the plinth. :)
This is by far the most artsy design I’ve had the pleasure of making for my exchange @unicreativearts on my semester away from @wilsondesignkpu
I hope you enjoy!

okayyy so this dress is totally done and submitted at this point but I’ve not had a second to edit and post.
Eek! It’s looking so good and if you check out the cover of the video you can see one of the photoshoots that I completed for this project.

This is a super fun structured drape I’m using to contrast with softer elements like tulle and flowers in my final project this term🫶

Who’s going to tell New York Sarah that current Sarah lives in London?
Crazy.
I’m on the adventure of a lifetime studying fashion design in London as an exchange student from Canada. 🫶

I lied to you already…
It’s been 2.5 months in London: time flies when you’re having fun!
Did you guess the colour scheme correctly in my last video?
We are doing… grey!? Tbh my professor thought it’d be best and so we are rolling with it since she’s the one grading it 🫡
See you soo soon for a studio vlog 💕

Second prototype before I make my final garment!
I did not realize how much I needed the second version until I compared it to the first. 😬 This is why a second set of eyes and some trial and error can be great!
Any guesses on the main colours for the final design? 👇

Heyy it’s Sarah! I’m at the @unicreativearts on exchange this term from @wilsondesignkpu 🫶
My classmates from Canada are also hard at work on some incredible draping projects this term. My professors here in London are really encouraging me to experiment with out-of-the-box draping techniques to share a design theme!
Both schools have great studio space and everyone’s eager to create! I love some of the new changes the larger school space in London has, but I do miss the close-knit group on the WSD design campus 🤗
Thanks for watching 💕

10 hours in Paris?? Yes I’m a little crazy for this haha but I really wanted to go!
We usually have class on Tuesday, but not this specific week so we took the opportunity to go.
I am going again in May which will be a little more relaxed and a chance to see everything.
The 24 hour travel day was exhausting, but the bus was honestly a great budget friendly way to travel.

No invite? No problem👇
Once upon a time, I was lucky enough to get a DM from Vancouver Fashion Week, inviting me to a set of shows after a few of my videos went viral.
She’s been in a bit of a ✨flop era✨ since then and knew that definitely wasn’t going to happen for London.
For official LFW accreditation, content creators need a minimum of 35k followers. However, seats and tickets are ultimately up to the designers and PR teams.
On the official LFW website, the schedule includes dates, times, and whether events have RSVP options. These RSVPs often link to an email that people like me can totally use.
📧 Tips for your email:
1. Introduce yourself from an angle that benefits the brand by having you there—content creator, stylist, blogger, etc.
2. Include some kind of proof of your work, like a website or portfolio link, to verify yourself.
3. Be polite and professional—personalize the email to the brand and ask about the next steps to attend the show instead of just asking for a ticket.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions, and as always, thanks for watching 🫶

What no one tells you about studying fashion is how much patience the design process takes!
This drape represents about an hour of work condensed into 6 seconds — including sketchbook page prep. And it’s only one of 18 drape explorations I’ve done for my course! (That’s 18 hours, y’all.)
There’s nothing like plugging in some music and experimenting until you create something beautiful. ;)

Thank you to everyone for showing so much love to this project!
I love a good upcycle, it’s how I really got into sewing years and years ago.
There are enough textiles on the planet for many of us to never buy new again. As a fashion student I know how hard it is to find those new/different/trendy pieces at an affordable price if not from fast fashion.
I encourage you to try your own thrift flip! You get the added bonus of saying “I made this” that’s like the best feeling ever too 💕

The design and the designer made it to @oliviarodrigo !
This has been such a fun project, here are a few still images of the project and a couple big smiles from me getting a last minute ticket!
Story time: I had a few hometown friends visiting in for the concert as well as a few Vancouver friends. Sadly, I was not one of the lucky people to snag a ticket. As a student, I was not about to pay 400+ for a ticket to sit by myself in the back of the arena...
I must have cashed in all my good karma because my friends met a mom and daughter in line who drove in from Prince George with an extra ticket! I raced to the concert from my apartment and had about 20 minutes to spare before it started. Sometimes the universe just works itself out and I got to spend the concert with the mom and daughter in some amazing seats. I couldn’t be more grateful to them! 🤗
If you’ve read this far- thanks again for following this project!
For privacy, there will not be any posts on my page of my friend in the outfit - thank you for understanding 🤍

Making the “G” Trench Coat was such a fun experience! During Fashion Revolution Week, Earth Week and Vancouver Fashion Week I’m reminded about the importance of using materials we have already to create beautiful things.

“G” Trench Coat
On top of my coursework this term I tackled this extra creative project for the @wilsondesignkpu 2024 Upcycled Competition with @oursocialfabric!
The theme this year was Gaia; the Gaia Theory describes how the earth is connected through all its systems and is regulating itself. I created a trench coat to connect the role of us as individuals in this system. My coat has an art-nouveau inspired mosaic of different upcycled materials to represent the different interactions we have with the environment.
Voting opens tomorrow- I can’t wait for you all to see my project video! 🧥🤍♻️
The “G” Trench Coat for the 2024 Upcycled Competition sponsored by @oursocialfabric is finally complete!
The theme for this year’s competition was Gaia. I interpreted the God Gaia and the Gaia theory into a coat with mosaic detailing. 🌳
I wanted to create a simple piece for everyday that spoke about our relationship to the environment in our every day actions. I’m so excited to see my peers submissions @wilsondesignkpu 🙌
Voting opens this Monday for The People’s Choice award! Stay tuned :)
#upcycled #fashionstudent #fashiondesign #trenchcoat #diyfashion
Fabric haul! I stopped by @oursocialfabric a few weeks ago to collect my materials for the project. They have an amazing selection and everything I found was under my $40 budget!
Part of my submission is a video, so I’m practicing talking in front of the camera again and documenting some key aspects of the design process. (I can’t believe I used to do this all the time! 😅)
The first part of the project I’m starting with is the mosaic on the back of the jacket - I’ll be posting that process soon!
This Easter weekend is going to be busy creating for me as there are just 2.5 weeks until the submission is due 🤯
Stay tuned: April 22-26 is People’s Choice voting week so you can support me and my peers at @wilsondesignkpu with our submissions!
Coming soon… “G”
I’m extremely excited to share my project proposal for the @wilsondesignkpu upcycled competition with @oursocialfabric!
I’ll be making a trench coat with mosaic design detailing to represent the Gaia theory:
“The Earth and its biological systems behave as a huge single entity. This entity has closely controlled self-regulatory negative feedback loops that keep the conditions on the planet within boundaries that are favourable to life”
My class assignments have been taking over my headspace and I feel super busy instead of creative. I’m excited to be working on this project and tap back into the design experience that’s more for fun than work!
Keep an eye out for some more content and an opportunity to vote for my design!
Happy Saturday everyone - stay creative! 💞

International Designer Final Project: Zuhair Murad
While many of our projects work to develop our technical skills this final ended up being a creative release to the semester. We each had the freedom to explore any designer and create a look that mimicked their design style.
I chose Zuhair Murad who has been a favourite designer of mine for as long as I can remember. My final look is intended to be an addition to his Fall 2023 Couture collection!
If you think you don’t know him take a look at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour costumes - he designs our favourites 😉
More of my process to come!

Annika’s look: Gao Pei
Sarah’s look: Iris Van Herpen

Completed Project Alert: Contrast Sports Bra-Top 🥳
I know the semester is almost over, but I wanted to share at least one of my assignments from this year so far!
This is an athletic top that’s a variation of a sports bra and is my first assignment working with knitwear machinery. I made two prototypes for this top playing around with contrast fabrics and the ease of the material. Looking at the finished product I’m sooo happy with my personal progress even if I cringe a little at the finishing mistakes. 🫣
My vision was *there* and I’d love to make some more of these as I think it turned out so cute!!

49 shows, 6 outfits, 5 stunning guests, and one amazing week!
I am so grateful to have been invited to @vanfashionweek again and attend each show with some amazing friends!
This was my first full fashion week experience and it did not disappoint! Running around in fancy outfits to look at more fancy outfits is literally the dream haha 😆
I feel so lucky to be a part of a community of creatives in my new home of Vancouver. I have come so far from where I was last year and have so many people to thank!
I still have 3 years left in my Fashion Design Degree, but I am very optimistic for the future and have high hopes I will be one of the designers in the show one day! 😊
Shoutout to the photographers @noushis.flix and @byricomarques for capturing the fun 💕
I love a good personal project! 🩵

I cannot believe I spent 4 months without my sewing machine! This HAS to be the longest time since I was 10 that I haven’t actively created…
I left most of my belongings in storage while I went if a few adventures this summer to New York and my hometown.
I’m starting my second year at @wilsondesignkpu and I’m eager to be creating again. I’m in a new space that I absolutely adore and I’m excited to see what this year will hold!

The process of making my Day 4 look for @vanfashionweek! 🌟

Introducing the “Debut Pant” - my midterm project from my Production class this semester. I also made the one shoulder bodysuit I’ve paired with it 😊
These pants have four pockets and are made with a knit polyester material that I bought secondhand. They have an exaggerated pin tuck pleat down the front and a slightly flared leg. They turned out amazing I’m super happy with them!!
We were asked to include a value added feature, something that sets your pants apart from those that could be bought. I chose to add some Taylor Swift lyrics from her *Debut* album song “A Place In This World” to the inside of the waistband. The teal colour also matches her album cover, to match my theme of Taylor Swift creations I named this one after her as well! ✨
I stole the tie from my dad - wore it as a belt… what do we think? 💭
Here are some shots from my recent Digital Media Assignment! 💫
We explored extracting line drawings from photos and how we could create digital sketches from them. It was super fun to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create this art! The clothing items I chose to draw are from the brand @scotch_soda. I used a variety of patterns from different artists from WGSN in different colours to fill in the drawings. 🎨
Line drawing images are developed from product images taken by Scotch and Soda.
I’ve had a couple of exciting weekends this month - firstly attending @apparelcamp and secondly @smocostume ! ✨
Apparel Camp had a variety of speakers and attendees from throughout the apparel industry, which opened up an amazing learning space for a student like myself!
SMOC had a wonderful collection of vintage “Unmentionables” from Melanie Talkington which is right up my alley and made for some great research in preparation for my future womenswear projects!
Thank you to everyone involved in each event😊
My first finished project of the new year is this gown for a gorgeous 2023 grad!
It’s been a while since I’ve made something custom, but I jumped at the chance to make a formal gown! My new pattern drafting and sewing skills from school have immensely helped in the design process. I had a ton of fun creating this; thank you Chariz for trusting me with your dress! I hope you have an amazing prom and graduation 💕
I present to you the “Birthday Dress” 🎂
I made this number over a year ago for my 18th birthday- my legal birthday in Alberta. This time last year I had no idea whether or not I’d be in Vancouver for university, and frankly, was living a completely different life.
Here I am exactly one year later in the same dress… except I’m in my own apartment?! It was my 19th birthday last week- my legal birthday in BC. And not only did I make it to Vancouver, but I received the official information today that I’ll be in New York over the summer! 🎉
I often think back to a year ago working 40 hours a week just with the hopes of ending up here. I’m so grateful for where I’m at in life right now. Cheers to another year of building the dream life and thank you all for your support ❤️
Here are some additional process photos (including a glimpse into my sketchbook) for my Design by Emotion Final Project!
I would estimate that my production time was around 12 hours for the beaded bustier and 2 hours for the sheer blouse. The total cost came in at about $15. I absolutely LOVE how this project turned out but I would need some insane motivation to make it again! 😅
“Imperfect” - My final project on emotion for my first semester at @wilsondesignkpu
I created a two piece top by hand beading the bustier and sewing the sheer blouse. On the third slide you’ll find the visual I painted to accompany my concept statement and design. I got my inspiration from Taylor Swift’s song “mirrorball” one of her most vulnerable songs. My statement is the exact one I submitted to my prof, feel free to have a read!
Additional process post(s?) to come…
And the 2022 Halloween costume is Poison Ivy!! 🌿
As a new Fashion Student, I wanted to take some of my new skills to make this costume! I had a couple of ideas heading into this year and ultimately decided on this after a couple sketches.
The total cost for making this outfit was under $15. Between thrifted fabrics and extra vines from @sarahdunncan it was a pretty sustainable costume! I plan on taking the vines off of the corset so I can wear it again too.
If you’re interested in the process pop over to my tiktok @svcoutfitters for more!
Happy Halloween! I have quite the costume this year, but I figured I’d show off last years Angel costume😇
I had made the dress from secondhand fabric making the cost only about $4 to make! I really liked my idea however feel like my execution of the dress could have been better. I’m all about growth, and with some of my new knowledge of drafting and fit from university, I think this years costume was really well done. Stay tuned for my 2022 post!
Also missed being able to do a group costume this year with @adelina.nacc and @megan.stahn my beautiful best friends in the last pic with me❤️
A year ago today I was unpacking Arc’Teryx jackets to sell in my retail job… this week my class was invited to the Arc’teryx Winter Event!
I always knew the @arcteryx brand produced great quality items and this event allowed a look into the technical apparel design that goes into their products. Thanks Arc’teryx we had an awesome time!
I’m finally settled into my new life! I’ve had an amazing first couple weeks and have already met a bunch of great people. My peers and professors at the Wilson School of Design at KPU are already better than I could have imagined. I’m starting some cool projects and new adventures- can’t wait for what’s to come!!
I had an amazing time at the @ctribefestival this past weekend. I was a backstage volunteer for two of the Fashion Shows and met so many incredibly talented designers and wonderful others working on the event! I’ll have some BTS on reels and tiktok @svcoutfitters :)

I made this jacket back when I was 15 in fashions class! The jacket turned out a bit big for myself and at the time I didn’t love the look. It’s fully lined and a little rough around the edges, but hey it was a first for me. I’ve definitely grown into it now and think this will be a staple of mine going forwards!
I was told I was giving “reading in a coffee shop” vibes today so here by name this: The Coffee Shop Jacket
In honour of the upcoming grad season I made a top inspired by my grad dress the “Victoria Corset” cause I’m nostalgic😌
I used the Parker corset pattern from @moodfabrics and fabric leftover from my grad dress!
We are also at 95 days until I move for Fashion School, so may as well post a few more of my projects before it becomes my every day;)
To close off my grad posts, of course I have my own grad dress that I made; I’ve named it the “Victoria Dress”
This dress was one I had been dreaming up for years. The base of it was one of my Mom’s old bridesmaids dresses! With the addition of some @moodfabrics tulle and embroidered fabric I slowly pieced together this dress. It seemed like it took forever to make, but I never got tired of working on it. That’s when I knew that Fashion Design is what I want to pursue in post secondary! Stay tuned for where I end up ;) 🌎
Top Five! @skillsalberta
April 15th I competed in the Alberta Provincial Skills Virtual Fashion Technology Competition. I had seven hours to construct this dress and was cutting it very close on time but still managed to finish. A huge thanks to the organizers of this event, the staff at my school, and my mentor Miss Donnelly for making this possible! Fifth in the province ain’t half bad ;)
May 2020 I participated in @skillsalberta Virtual Fashion Design and Technology Competition and placed 4th in the province!! I made a Zip-up Collared Denim top. The challenge was to up-cycle an existing item into something new and that’s what I did with a pair of jeans.
*yes that’s Starbucks in the last photo🤷♀️
